Happy Monday

It's Monday and I am back at work after a really nice 4-day weekend, but I have a nice short this week as we will be heading to Eugene for the "Civil War" on Thursday and then I will be getting on a plane for Las Vegas Saturday morning for the inaugural Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon! This will be marathon #16 for me and if things go really, really well I am hoping to qualify for Boston.

I successfully completed Week 2 of both the 100 push-up and 200 sit-up challenges - yay for me! I was able to do the minimum of 16 consecutive push-ups so I can move on to week 3; I will start tonight.

I worked on my Christmas cards and did a little scrapbooking this weekend as well.

Off to work now, have a great day,

Fun giveaway

Happy day before Thanksgiving!

It is a beautiful and sunny day in the Pacific Northwest; rare this time of year so we are really enjoying it.

I am learning to navigate my way through blog land and I am having the best time! I'm following a handful of other bloggers and am starting to comment; I thoroughly enjoy every post I read, but I know there is no way I can comment on all of them.

Go check out Tall Mom on the Run; she is having an awesome giveaway, you can find her here:

My employer has granted an early dismissal today; so I will be able to get a short run in while the sun is still shining. After that it is off to make Pumpkin Pie and a try my hand at a new dessert - Apple Crunch Pie with Vanilla Sauce.

The kids will be home from college this afternoon and I am looking forward to spending the weekend with my family.

Saturday's long run

We intended to do 22 miles today for our last long run for the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon. It was a cool morning, but dry - this is unusual for this time of year; it always rains in Portland! The rain gods were smiling on us as we got the run in with only a couple of raindrops.

It became apparent early on that 22 probably wasn't going to happen; we all decided we would be happy with 20, we ended up with 19.7 which I am happy with. It wasn't my best long run, but neither was it my worst. It's now officially taper time; only 2 weeks but I think it will be o.k. I had been hoping to qualify for Boston at Vegas, although it was a long shot. But now that registration has closed for Boston some of the pressure if off; I think I definitely have a PR in me though.

Have a great weekend!

Week one - SUCCESS

I have just completed week 1 of the 100 hundred push-up and 200 sit-up challenges. Yeah for me! You can get all the gory details on this challenge here:

www.hundredpushups.com

To get started you do an initial test to see how many push-ups you can do; let's just say I started at the very beginning, I started in column 1. You then do a total of 5 sets of push-ups, with a 60-second rest between sets. This is how I fared:

On to sit-ups; I did really well with sit-ups for this week, doing more than the minimum for each set in most cases. I also performed an initial sit-up test to determine where I should begin. Based on my initial test results I could have started on week 3, column 3; I decided to start at week 1, column 3 - this would allow me to essentially stay on the same six week cycle as the push-ups:

Tuesday Track Night

I'm off to the track in a little bit; my training schedule calls for mile repeats, but I think I'm going to pass and just do some easy 800's as I am going to be running 22 miles on Saturday and I want to have a strong run. Saturday's run will be my last long run in preparation for the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon - and yes, I am a week off; giving myself only a 2-week taper. Sometimes life just gets in the way.

I re-started the 100 push-up and 200 sit-up challenges this past weekend; the sit-ups are easy, but the push-ups are killing me. This will be my third attempt to complete these challenges and I am determined to make it to the end this time.

Day one!

Today I begin my journey into "Blog Land"; I've been following a variety of blogs for the past few months and I have decided to do more than stalk - I am participating!

I am not a writer; nor do I consider myself creative. I don't know that I will have much to say that folks will find interesting, but I am looking forward to using this to learn, grow, share and explore.

I consider this blog both christened and under construction so bear with me as I create my profile, add data, and learn the ropes of this strange new world.
